Potty Training Earlier With Cloth Diapers

This is a personal post about my 19 month old and her potty training…

I’ve heard all the stories of cloth diapered babies potty training earlier than those wearing disposables.  This being my first baby I hadn’t had the personal experience yet with potty training little ones. I hadn’t really thought of it until my daughter was around 14 months and I was meeting a local mom to deliver her Monkey Doodlez AIO  cloth diaper order. The mom had a daughter the same age as mine and we were sharing stories when we got on the topic of her baby at 12 months asking to go to the potty. I was impressed and a little disappointed that I the mom who sells cloth diapers hadn’t even thought of potty training  yet.

The following week I started sitting my baby on her potty after diaper changes, after waking up from naps and in the morning. We read books or sang songs, it never took long and she would go potty. She didn’t ask for the potty but knew (at least I like to think she knew) what to do. I wasn’t very consistent with sitting her on the potty, that takes discipline! However I was happy not having to change as many poopy diapers.

At 18 months she started asking for the potty. The first time she took me by surprise, I had to ask her again what she said. She either tells me ‘yucky’, ‘poop’ or ‘potty’ and then I know it’s time. The last week or so she has been quite good at asking to go potty and has been giving me more time from when she notifies me.

At daycare she has started to ask to go potty too! Unfortunately she is still in a room where there isn’t a bathroom. She is moving to the next room in early July and then can start using the potty! I am very excited for her to have this available at daycare. Hopefully that will really push the process along and soon we will be out of diapers.

I am now  beginning to wonder if all babies need training pants or if they can be skipped altogether? I sell the Happy Heiny’s trainers and they are very popular. I guess we will just find out if it’s possible to completely be potty trained without them.

Now we need to get up the courage to move her out of the crib and into a big girl bed…
