Green Bebe now open under new ownership

Green-bebe.com is once again open for business.

My name is Kari Faber and my husband and I purchased green-bebe.com from Pam after she decided to close the store. I plan to run the business as Pam did, with great products, great customer service and fast shipping. I am an advocate for cloth diapers and am currently transitioning my lifestyle to green products. I plan to continue cloth diapering education by holding workshops and also plan to introduce more green products to green-bebe.com.

I was introduced to cloth diapers last summer when I saw a local newspaper featuring green-bebe.com. At the time I was expecting my first child and was interested in learning all I could about diapering options. My husband and I talked a lot about cloth diapers and wanted to give them a test run to see how it worked with our lifestyle, unfortunately I didn’t get around to buying them until after our daughter was born. Admittedly our daughter spent the first few weeks in disposable diapers and not surprisingly developed diaper rash that wouldn’t go away. This prompted me to go ahead and order the cloth diapers from the website that had first brought cloth diapering to my attention, green-bebe.com. At first I was skeptical if I would stick with cloth diapering, but it was a lot easier than I ever thought. After a few cloth diaper changes, our daughters diaper rash cleared up and without any ointment. This was enough of a reason for me to personally make a commitment to cloth diapering. I’m also very proud of the fact that I am keeping at least 2 tons of non-biodegradable waste out of our local landfills, and the monetary savings doesn’t hurt either!

I’m happy to say our daughter is 6 months old and still in cloth diapers. She has never had a diaper rash problem since changing over to cloth diapers. Her daycare provider was skeptical at first, but now also happily uses cloth diapers as they witnessed firsthand what happened when she was in disposables for just a few diaper changes and how easy it is to use cloth diapers.

Looking back to my experience so far, I’ve learned a lot in a short period of time. I look forward to helping others find the right fit for their lifestyle.

It’s 2007 why would you use cloth diapers?

When we announced to family and friends that we had decided to ditch disposables we received the same confused look, which was then followed with the simple question…why?

Why use cloth?  Well for us it was a problem that I could never get to go away.  My daughter seemed to battle a constant bout with diaper rash.  It did not matter how often I changed her or what brand of disposable diapers I used the rash always came back.  Frustrated I sought out information on the Internet.  It was that afternoon that I was exposed to the economic savings, health benefits, and not to mention the environmental benefits of cloth diapering.

Economic Savings: We averaged $85.00 per month on store brand diapers and wipes.   From birth to potty training that was an astounding $2,550.00.  Investments into a cloth diapering system can range from $200-$750.  Keep in mind that you can reuse your stash on any future children, or even resell it and get close to half your investment back!  As a stay at home mom I am always looking for any way to trim the family budget.  The monetary savings related to cloth diapering sealed the deal!

Health Benefits:  Disposable diapers contain sodium polyacrylate, which absorbs liquid and turns it into gel.   Those who use disposable diapers will recognize the polymer as the shiny gel-like crystals that often make their way onto your baby’s bottom.  Sodium polyacrylate works well to absorb, but is commonly linked to allergic reactions, skin irritations, and possible reproductive organ dysfunction.  It was banned from use in tampons in 1985 after it was linked to toxic shock syndrome .  If ingested, sodium polyacrylate is deadly to children in amounts as little as 5 grams.

The Environment: On average from birth to potty training each baby will have 6,000 diaper changes, which translates into 2 tons of non-biodegradable waste!  It becomes very easy to see how each family can make a HUGE difference.

The options today for cloth diapering are numerous.  With so many options, colors, and prints it is easy to see how this can become an obsession for some of us!  Cloth diapers function with the same easy as disposables but without the chemicals, landfill waste, and costs so I ask… It’s 2007 why aren’t you using cloth diapers?
